For the last few years Kaleo is blessed to be able to partner with some of our own Thomas and Suzanne Aschinger who lead Abandoned but Precious ministry in fulfilling our Lord's call to care for the orphans. ABP is dedicated to serve the children of India who are in desperate need. They have partnered with loving Indian Christians who are caring for destitute and abandoned children, both those who are fully Orphans, and those whose families are too poor to support them, taking them from a life in poverty, abuse, and disease, and giving them a safe home with good education, stable living conditions with loving and caring caretakers, and most importantly the word of Christ into their lives.
Now that's some big numbers. However Joseph Benziger, who runs Bethany Children's Home, out of the love Christ has put in his heart has been working for over 20 years to put a dent in those numbers. He has selflessly raised dozens of children over the years in his house. Partnership with ABP has given him more resources in raising the children effectively, and he now has 24 of his 37 children sponsored.
In August we were blessed with a new opportunity to help. For the last 10 years the Boy's at Bethany Children's Home have been sleeping under a thatch hut (see pictures) on the roof of the apartment building that houses them. There was not enough room for all the children to sleep in the apartment. Thus Joseph had the girls sleep in the rooms, while the boys slept on the roof. Unfortunately for the boys, the only bathroom was next to the girl's room, thus limiting bathroom use for the boys to daytime only.
Recently the owner of the apartment next door to Bethany Children's home decided he wished to sell it. We needed $4000 to help purchase the apartment and move the boys indoors.
Starting the 2nd week of August we began a fund raising drive to raise the money by December. However the owner of the apartment for sale pressed Joseph for an earlier sale date and we had to up our goal date to October 1st. Fortunately ABP received many generous donations both from Kaleo members and a $1000 matching funds pledge from one of our partners in the San Diego area (they have asked not to be named) we reached our goal of $4000 last week. Joseph has purchased the apartment and the previous owner is moving out. The boys will be moving into their new home November 19th.
We at Kaleo International Ministry and at Abandoned But Precious Ministry say thank you. And the kids of Bethany Children's home say thank you.
“Pure and undefiled religion before God the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their misfortune and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” James 1:27
