Duties as elder : equipping, teaching/preaching, leading, systems

Pulpit : Mid-week classes, occassional Sunday sermon, counseling, small groups, my full time job at Monk Development and my blog on church, technology, faith and culture.

Wisdom/bit of advise/quote : "It's not what happens to you but how you handle it." -My Mom 3-4 times a week while I grew up. It's not a direct quote from Scripture but it sure makes sense to me.

Wife : Heather , who grew up here in San Diego but God led her to Seattle of all places to meet me! God is good.

Children : Gideon born March 19th, 2003 and Roman born January 30th, 2006.

Education : B.A. (Business Administration) Seattle Pacific University; studied 2 years at University of Oregon Go Ducks!

Hope and Vision for Kaleo : That we respond to our calling as a people sent by Christ to go forth and make disciples. That we teach and preach God's word faithfully and make an impact in our community bringing Christ's message to a lost culture.

How you got involved with Kaleo : Heather and I attended a Church called Mars Hill in Seattle that was part of a Church planting organization. We were called to San Diego and moved down from Seattle where I met David Fairchild. David and I shared a vision and Kaleo was founded as God confirmed the vision.

A few of my favorite things : My wife, my children and the neighborhood I live in.  I love technology and thinking about what is next.   I also enjoy helping other people go after a dream. I've been blessed to participate in starting 2 non-profits and 4 companies, raise venture capital and love thinking through business issues. Most important I love God, the scripture He gives us and that he gave me my wife.

Et cetera, et cetera : Has the North American Church lost its way? Are we reaching out to the community around us, or have we tried to build up walls to keep them out believing its "safer" this way. As a Church we need to continually re-focus on our mission as a community sent by Christ (John 20:19-21) to participate in this world. This participation needs to be done in a way that is honest with God's word and His gospel, but also it must be done free from the chains the Church has put on itself (moralism, those who attend are entertained versus participate, consumerism, individualism, etc). Let us contextualize God's message and be the light in this world we are called to.
