Area of Involvement: Director, Kaleo Counseling Center; drums, occasional preaching

Wisdom/bit of advise/quote:  “Go, eat your bread in joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart, for God has already approved what you do.” ~ Eccles. 9:7

Spouse: Susan, my beautiful and passionate wife, who brings me joy, and continually blesses me with her smile and tears for the hurting.

Children:  My talented and lovely step-daughter Ryan, married and living in Rhode Island;  my artistic and handsome son Jesse, born in 1993, and my beautiful daughter Alyssa, born in 1994,  who always has a song to sing or a picture to take.

Education:Temple University, Philadelphia, Pa., B.S. Mechanical Engineering; Westminster, Philadelphia Theological and Trinity Seminaries, Masters in Divinity.  Additional Counseling training through Christian Counseling and Educational  Foundation and Reformed Theological Seminary.

Hope and Vision for Kaleo: My hope is that this body of believers will continue to embrace and love this culture as we rest and revel in what Christ has done. In so doing, the Gospel will empower us to more and more follow the Wonderful Counselor as “wounded healers.”  He loves the broken and brings redemption and restoration to his people in order to bless the world.

How you got involved with Kaleo:  I was pastoring and doing some counseling in Philly when we visited San Diego for my wife’s job interview at Tri-City hospital in Oceanside.  Knowing and loving the Acts 29 vision, I had rung up Drew & David and we chatted about the possibility of beginning a Gospel-centered, church-based counseling ministry at Kaleo.  While Susan interviewed, Drew met me for lunch, and we schemed and planned.  Being the supportive and awesome leadership they are, the elders helped nurture this vision of mine for bringing the Gospel into the heart of our counseling in the church and our community.  We packed up the family and drove our Highlander across country for three weeks in November 2006, and the rest is history.

A few of my favorite things:   My wife & kids, counseling and writing (even some poetry), seeing the fingerprints of God in creation, good friends and a bottle of Pinot Noir (Williams Selyem is pretty awesome), film, music and other artistic expressions…and of course Speed Racer’s car, the Mach 5.

Favorite Books:  The Freedom of the Christian by Luther;  anything by Dan Allender;  The Lord of the Rings by Tolkien;  Everyday Apocalypse by David Dark

Favorite Hymns:  And Can it Be, Come Thou Long Expected Jesus;  O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing; Hark! The Herald Angels Sing...all written by Charles Wesley, a monster gospel poet.  Crown Him with Many Crowns by Matthew Bridges is beautiful too.
