First time to a Gathering?
When to arrive:
Linda Vista Gathering - If it's your first visit then it's probably best to turn up around 10:15am on Sunday mornings for the 10:30am gathering. If you are driving then you'll be pleased to hear that there is plenty of free parking at Mark Twain High School. We meet in auditorium which is located adjacent to the main entrance.
College Area Gathering - This gathering meets at the Upaka Center on Sunday mornings. We recommend you arrive at 10:15 am for the 10:30 am service.
El Cajon Gathering - This gathering meets on Saturday nights at El Cajon First Baptist Church. We recommend you arrive around 5:15 pm for the 5:30 pm gathering. There is plenty or parking at the church.
What to wear:
This is easy. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We are an informal church and accept people as they are. There is no need to dress up to try and be someone that you're not. Whether you come as a suited business man or in shorts and flip-flops that is fine with us.
What to expect:
For some people going anywhere for the first time can be a bit of an uncertain experience. To help avoid any worries here's a quick summary of what you can expect at Kaleo.
People show up prior to gathering and can find a seat and spend time greeting one another. The gathering begins with a Call to Service, often a reading from the Psalms, followed by a time of quiet reflection and prayer. A worship team leads the congregation in songs both before and at the end of the gathering. The sermon, or message, is based on the Bible and is designed to help us understand God, who we are and the world we live in. After the sermon we enter into a time of communion to thank God and remind ourselves of our love and need for Jesus Christ. The gathering ends with a few announcements and a benediction to send people off with a 'good word' of encouragement. After the gathering, people often spend 30-45 minutes greeting with one another and then frequently go in groups to lunch or dinner.
Is it just Sundays?
Absolutely not! God is with us all week long and we aim to lead lives pleasing to him. We're not perfect and we do make mistakes, but we desire to make a positive difference in everything we do. To further encourage us we have midweek home groups we call, Missional Communities (the groups are simply a meeting of maybe 10-20 people in someone's house). Missional Communities are a great way to get to know others in the church and to be real with each other about everyday living.
For those with disabilities:
Mark Twain is setup to accomodate people with disabilities. If you wish to discuss specific needs, please contact the church office. There are reserved parking spaces near the entrance. We do not currently have a loop for the hearing impaired (please tell us if this would be helpful).
