*THERE IS NO AUDIO FOR THIS WEEK'S SERMON*
I hope that today you will have a deeper and more thorough understanding of the gospel.
“Jesus Christ, God’s promised Rescuer and Ruler, lived our life, died our death on a cross and rose again in triumphant vindication as the first fruits of the new creation to bring forgiven sinners together under His gracious reign as His Kingdom People for all eternity.”
Crown (the purpose of gospel, the Kingdom, the story), cross (the power of the gospel to save, the means, the how), heart (new hearts, new response to the gospel, the understanding of grace. It is all grace!) , infinity (the duration of the gospel, how long will this last, how long we will live!).
Crown: Phillipians 2:9-11. Who God is! Jesus is God. He is the promised Rescuer and Ruler and He is King! Mark 1:15.The King is bringing his Kingdom. This is the story of the gospel. We will be going through this in much greater detail the next three weeks. Why is it important to know the story? To know who wears the true crown? What are some false crowns, false stories, and how do they devastate? Jesus is the King. He is the promised Rescuer and Ruler. He alone can save, restore, and redeem. He is the Creator God. We are all part of his story whether we acknowledge it or not.
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and the OT have a Kingdom focus! Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Restoration! Christ fulfills His Kingdom promises. He heals so there will be no lame, wedding brings best wine and feast will keep going (extension of celebration), he feeds, so there will be no hunger. This is a sign and a foretaste. We are Kingdom people, made for a Kingdom community.
Cross: What the King did. Phillipians 2: 5-11, Corinthians 15:1-6, Romans 1:16-17
Where is our justification? Why is this important? What happens when we forget the cross and think we can/must earn salvation? This results in legalism, pride, and despair. What if we add or subtract just a little to the work of the cross? Cults, frustrations, etc.
Heart: Luke 24:1-7, 2 Corinthians 5:17-19 Jesus rises so we have new hearts and new lives with new purposes inaugurating in a new kingdom as his new people. Our heart responds with a new life. We are new. We see things out of a new perspective, the perspective of Jesus’ crown and Jesus’ work on the cross.
If it is all grace that we have new life what does this do to our attitude? If we have been forgiven much how will we love? What does infinite forgiveness do to us? What if we don’t believe we are forgiven? What if we can’t forgive others? Then how would we live?
If we are new people with new hearts than we must have new identities! Gospel identities. What are some identities? Part of the Royal Family, Servants to the King, Messengers/ambassadors, missionaries and disciples/learners/followers of a new master.
Infinity: John preached eternal life. Everlasting life. John 3:16. God’s eternal kingdom is initiated and the length of time is forever. This is huge! How long does our life seem compared to infinity? If we believe the gospel is the power to save for all of eternity, how would that change the way we live? We can press on if we have eternal life can’t we? How would this change how we handle rejection? Fear of man? Circumstances? We would regard it as momentary affliction.
KCA is a gospel-centered community. When we get off center, we need to gospel one another. Gospeling is the action of reminding each other of the truths of the gospel. We need to establish a new heart with new roots, and remove old roots. Gospel one another with this. Who God is (Rescuer and Ruler), what he has done (cross), belief of that (heart), for how long (Infiniti).
Jesus is the key to all of this. Jesus is the one who inaugurates all of this. KCA is all about King Jesus. Jesus is the gracious King who rules perfectly. Jesus is the rescuer who lived our life and died our death. Jesus is the one who gives us the Holy Spirit to turn our hearts of stone into hearts of flesh. Jesus defeated death so we could live forever. It is all about Jesus. He is the lead pastor, lead church planter, lead missionary, lead funder, supporter, and trainer. KCA is all about Jesus. The gospel is all about Jesus. This world is all about Jesus, will always be about Jesus, and has always been about Jesus. If you live for anything else you will only be living in perpetual frustration and confusion. Live for Christ alone! Live for Jesus!
