How do we respond when we become painfully aware of the uncertainties of the future?
When we have problems that we can't control, fear and anxiety over things we can't help, pain and dread when we have to wait in uncertainty. Does your imagination take over? Do you feel helpless not knowing the outcome, or do you deny that there are any problems at all?
David shows us that he is truly our companion in Psalm 31. David is completely overwhelmed with grief and trouble that came from his own iniquities. His problems are such that he cannot turn to anyone for help; he has driven all from his presence, he is completely alone, and surrounded by enemies. His situation is dire, and David faces an uncertain future and likely death.
Yet in David's response to his situation, we can find direction. "My times are in Your hand."
